(Reposted) Edin Dzeko Historic Night’s Leads Roma as they Take Plzen to the Graveyard #353

Score: A.S Roma 5 Viktoria Plzen 0FT

Coming off an emotional win in the Roman Derby against Lazio Roma return to Champions League Play. They would welcome Viktoria Plzen to the Stadio Olimpico as the Czech Republic side would face the challenge of facing this Roma attack. Roma and Viktoria Plzen most recently played 3 years ago in the Europa League group stages with Roma coming away as 4-1 winners thanks to an Edin Dzeko hat trick. It would be a far too familiar reminder for Plzen. Roma came into the game having won their last two matches and for the first time this season have confidence and momentum. That is something Roma used to their advantage as the heavy favorite of Romans took care of business. From the very beginning of this match Plzen didn’t stand a chance. Edin Dzeko found his form as he found the back of the net early with the goal he became Roma 10th highest score in club history. Roma continued to dominate and right before the half Roma would add another with another Edin Dzeko brace to give a Roma the 2-0 lead at the end of the first half. In the second half the onslaught continued even more. Cengiz Under added a third for Roma as they kept on piling them on. A little later Justin kluivert joined the party scoring his first Roma goal to make it 4-0. An Incredibly dominating performance that would end with Edin Dzeko getting a goal in stoppage-time completing his hat-trick in what was a 5-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico for the Romans. It was the Edin Dzeko show at the Stadio Olimpico this evening Edin Dzeko incredible form in Europe continued as he now has eight goals in his last seven Champions League games. In addition to that he became the first Roma player ever to score a hat-trick in the Champions League. It was all smiles at the Stadio Olimpico as Roma route Plzen with a 5-0 demolition a performance led by Edin Dzeko and the Roma attack.

Roman manager Eusebio Di Francesco remains in the 4-2-3-1 having seeing success with it over the last three weeks.. In goal Roma’s number one would be the Sweed Robin Olsen. They would be a slight change tube Roma’s back four with Manolas being dropped to the bench. At left-back would be Roma’s player of the month in September Alex Kolarov who has scored in two consecutive games. Beside him would be the center-back partnership of Juan Jesus and Federico Fazio then at right back would be Alexandro Florenzi. A slight adjustment was made in Roma’s defensive midfield as Bryan Cristante gets his first champions league start paring with Steven Nzonzi. In Central Midfield would be would be Roma’s a derby hero Lorenzo Pellegrini who has seemingly popped after his jaw-dropping performance against Lazio. Then on the right wing we would finally see wonderkid Justin Kluivert get another start. On the left wing would be Romans Turkish star Cengiz Under as he returns to Roma’s XI. Then finally upfront as the main Striker would be Edin Dzeko who scored a hat-trick against Plzen when these two teams played in the Europa League 3 years ago. Perfect lineup as we would finally see the trio of Under Kluivert and Dzeko is the same team something we have been waiting for since the beginning of the season. Javier Pastore and De Rossi would but out but As always a very strong bench for the Romans.

The Champions League was finally back all the preparation all the talk was over as this anticipated match was about to kick off. It was Roma’s first match in the Champions League as the Stadio Olimpico was incredible with his atmosphere and felt emotional and inspiring. Roma were set to take on Plzen in a match that they were heavily favored in and were expected to deliver having just recently won the Derby and found themselves with some momentum. Champions League football got underway at the Stadio Olimpico on a Tuesday night in Rome. Roma were the better team and it certainly didn’t take very long for that statement to come into fruition. In just the third minute Roma struck first. While moving the ball around Kolarov from the left side sent a superb through ball into Edin Dzeko who took a few touches to get into the box before sliding home a low shot beating the keeper to the far post to give Roma the 1-0 lead. It would be Edin Dzeko 74th Roma goal which moved him up to 10th on Roma’s all time scoring list. An incredible way to start for Roma incredible ball movement into Kolarov who picked out the perfect pass and an incredible finish by Dzeko this is just what he does in Europe. Over the last few years he is one of the most consistent performance in Europe’s top competitions.

Edin Dzeko gives Roma an early lead as he becomes Roma’s 10th highest scorer ever

After the goal Roma continued to dominate. The quality difference between the two teams could not have been any more clear based on the performance we started to see. Following a Lorenzo Pellegrini miss Roma came close with Dzeko again just 10 minutes after his goal. Lorenzo Pellegrini sent through a well-timed through pass into Edin Dzeko who tried to hit it from a complicated angle as a keeper saved it. It was a game in which Roma were in full control and sarees chances and possession but Plzen had a couple chances a little bit later but none of them really challenged Olsen. Around the half-hour mark Under came close with a powerful strike from distance. Roma had their Fair few chances but it wasn’t a ton as Roma was being selective of how they wanted to attack this defense. Sure Roma could have had many more chances and shots and they did but they wanted to make sure they put the chances away that they had. I thought Pellegrini Under and kluivert all did a phenomenal job in the Midfield in creating and developing chances. Roma was so much better in all aspects of it as they continued to try to break them down to get another goal. Near the end of the Lorenzo Pellegrini hit another beautiful cross into Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian connected with his head but was denied from The Keeper. It was clear early that Dzeko was going to be a nightmare to deal with his size and strength and exceptional skills with the ball at his feet Plzen couldn’t really do much to stop him. Just a few minutes later in the 40th minute Plzen fell victim to more Brilliance from Edin Dzeko. A flurry of high-quality passing between Alexandro Florenzi and Cengiz Under set up Dzeko for another opportunity. After receiving the ball from Florenzi  Under positioned himself so well to hit an absolutely superbly accurate cross into the box. Dzeko controlled it with his chest before ferociously smashing it into the top corner to give Roma the 2-0 lead. Excellent control an awareness from Edin Dzeko with a superb touch however a lot of credit must go to under who hit a perfect ball that made it very easy for Dzeko to put on the finishing touch. Roma had another opportunity just a few minutes later with another superb passed from Lorenzo Pellegrini who found Florenzi in a dangerous position he came very close in a one-on-one with a keeper but he was able to deal with it. That would end the first half in a very Roman attack heavy dominations of the visitors as Roma lead 2-0 after 45 minutes.

Edin Dzeko Celebrates with Lorenzo Pellegrini as his second goal doubles the Roma advantage

It was a truly outstanding half from Roma firmly showing their quality. In the second half Cengiz Under really came into the game in a very dramatic way. So many opportunities and chances right out of the gate for The Young Turk. Under had a back-to-back chances seeing a deep strike Saved By The Keeper which he followed up connecting on a header from an Alex Kolarov cross to put more pressure on the keeper despite not scoring. His ball movement speed and Agility were not going to be stopped as the goal fest continued. It was Cengiz Under who delivered the knockout punch in the 64th minute. While Roma were coming forward Lorenzo Pellegrini who had been an animal all game setting up so many teammates with good passes. Found the perfect pass for Under as he sent a through ball to the outside to find the Turkish Winger. Under used his patients and speed as the Turkish 21 year old beat the defender to putting the ball past the keeper in the back of the net to make it 3-0. It was the second goal of the season and his second Champions League goal of his career. Unbelievable awareness and patience shown his is going to be a superstar and it was on full display exactly why.

Cengiz Under shows his brilliance as he adds tp the Roma Route

Roma continue their onslaught of chances they went to the throat and were not going to be denied. A few minutes Federico Fazio came close putting his head through a Lorenzo Pellegrini cross. This was be followed by Justin kluivert finding edin dzeko in the Box the Bosnian struck the ball from the side but the keeper saved. Excellent awareness and vision of the young Kluivert. A few minutes later Bryan cristante connected on a header from a Lorenzo Pellegrini cross coming close but just missing the target. A minute later Lorenzo Pellegrini set up Under but his shot was saved. Roma were coming they refused to take the foot off the gas. Last season a youngster by the name of Cengiz under scored on his Champions League debut Roma would feel a similar moment in 73rd minutes. A incredible cross from Midfield from Lorenzo Pellegrini found Cengiz Under who hit it on the first touch. The goalkeeper saved but a 19 year old Justin kluivert who was in the right place at the right time smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0. An incredible moment as he scores his first goal in the Roma shirt another reason why under and kluivert need to be playing together. Much like his father did Justin as a teenager has a Champions League goal. Unbelievable play with Pellegrini kluivert and under world-class cross from Pellegrini an excellent touch from under and kluivert being there to put it in the back of the net.

Justin Kluivert scores his first ever Roma goal in the Roma colors as he displays a Tribute to his Former teammate Abdelhak Nouri

In the goal kluivert, the youngest Roma player ever to score in the Champions League a bright future at this great club for the young Dutchman. Roma made three substitutions following the fourth goal. Patrik Schick came in for Cengiz Under. Nicolo Zaniolo  came in at for Lorenzo Pellegrini to make his second career appearance in the Champions League. Then Luca Pellegrini made his Champions League debut for Roma as he came in for Alex Kolarov. With about 5 minutes remaining Edin Dzeko came close another shot on goal. He was looking for that hat trick and in the in stoppage time in the 92nd minutes it happened. Mutually what was the last kick of the game off a corner kick from Florenzi. Edin Dzeko rose up ferociously sending a bullet of a header into the top corner to make it 5-0. Scoring his 77th goal for Roma and his fourth goal of the season. Using his size and power the score of the hattrick becoming the first player ever to score a champions league hat-trick for Roma as the time ran out following a dominant performance from the Romans at the Stadio Olimpico.

A game in which it could not have gone much better for Roma. It was an absolute goal Fest not to mention historical Milestones were reached for several different players. These two teams faced off 3 years ago in the Europa League group stage. At the time Roma had Alison Becker Mohamed Salah Kevin Strotman and Radja Nainggolan. By all accounts Roma were a better team then than they are now despite the fact that Roma have themselves set up for the future in an incredible way. Despite not having those players anymore Roma ripped through this team even easier. I’m not sure whether it’s just the sizable mismatch that they had in their advantage or the emotional victory against their Derby Rivals Lazio over the weekend. Both things could have inspired this impressive victory. Lorenzo Pellegrini jaw-dropping performance inspired another incredible performance in this match. Collectively Roma were just next level especially in their attack. Plzen was playing checkers and Roma was playing chess they were always one step ahead. I loved the lineup that DiFrancesco picked for this match this is something I’ve been looking forward to all season. Lorenzo Pellegrini Cengiz Under Justin kluivert Bryan Cristante and Edin Dzeko all in the same lineup. The reason I liked it so much was because of the mix of young talent and quality veterans with the likes of Dzeko & Nzonzi. Roma just seemed to operate on a higher level out of the 4-2-3-1 formation. Before that match even kicked off history was made. Justin Kluivert became the second youngest Dutch player to appear in the Champions League. We also saw the Champions League debuts Luca Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante. Finally we got to see the young Wingers kluivert and Under play together and it worked so incredibly well. However story of this match was is Edin Dzeko. Coming into this match Edin Dzeko had scored four goals in his last three games in the Champions League. He scored a very early goal in this match and then added another before the half-time. While climbing to 10th most goals in Roma history in the process. In the second half Justin kluivert would score his first goal in the Roma colors on his on his debut. Under also added another furthermore proves that Kluivert and Under should be starting together this team is going to be crazy good because of the talent of these two youngsters. In a very end of the match at Dzeko scored late to complete his hat-trick in what was a 5-0 Roma victory. Becoming the first player ever score hat-trick and a Champions League. I got to say Lorenzo Pellegrini has popped he is fulfilling his incredible potential I’m not sure he’s going to return to the bench anytime soon. DiFrancesco moved him into his new role in Center Midfield and he thrived his Vision was spot-on defensively was great make smart intelligent plays. Also we have to give credit to Under and Kluivert I thought the two of them Together looked incredibly dangerous going forward if these DiFrancesco can get the best out of both of them they will become a lethal combination they’re efficient there quick and they’re young we need to see more of this The rest of the season. Everyone in that Roma attack in Midfield played exceptionally well. However the man of the match belongs to one man Edin Dzeko. His clinical ability in this match was on a level he broke records in this match he performed to his Absolute Peak Seemingly getting out of the slump in the process. 8 Champions League goals in 7 games that’s the type of form this guy is in Europe. He played exceptionally smart took advantage of his chances in more ways than one was a leader for the team was exceptional in every form. Roma could not have asked for a better performance as the fans were treated to World Domination at the Stadio Olimpico From the first kick of the ball Roma was always going to win this game and buy big numbers. So many positives to take from Roma have won their third consecutive game. Roma are flying right now they’ve got us together they finally have gelled and I think we’re going to see a really different Roma team the rest. Roma’s next two games are against weak opposition Roma will be in a good situation to pick up some key points. Real Madrid loss to cska Moscow meaning Roma are now in pretty good position to challenge for the top spot in the group. Juventus won 3-0 today and Dybala had a hat trick with what happened with Roma and Dzeko this is a great day for Italian football.
