A Win a Last Roma Battle back as Bryan Cristante sinks the winner #418

Score: A.S Roma 3 Genoa 2FT

Stadio Olimpico,Rome

After a choke job and a loss in the Champions League Roma return home to welcome Genoa to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for a crucial match that could determined the job security of Eusebio di Francesco. Anything less than a wins on Saturday night football against Genoa would without question cost DiFrancesco his job. Roma took the season series last year against Genoa  This was such an important game as the pressure continues and continues to mount as Roma have heavily underperformed the expectations. Despite everything Roma had a legitimate opportunity to climb a back into the top six. Meanwhile Genoa have had horrible form over the last month in what was a very difficult and tough match for Roma. Roma provided some real character. Roma try to pick up a valuable three points for Roma. Ultimately succeeding but it was a battle throughout in a five-goal thriller  in Rome. Genoa took the early lead in the first half Through Piatek to give Genoa with a 1-0 lead. Roma fought back as Federico Fazio equalized making it 1-1. Genoa retook the lead making it 2-1 lead before half-time. At the very end of the first half Justin Kluivert equalized again for Roma through some absolute brilliance making 2-2. It had looked like a Genoa taken the lead in the second half but VAR interfered taking away the goal. It is a moment that Roma took full advantage of as Bryan Cristante scored the winner making it 3-2. At the very end of the match we saw some controversy as Genoa were not given a late penalty that could of quite easily equalized for Genoa. Roma were given a stroke of luck at the end  it was a results that Roma truly needed as they fight back multiple times to earn a hard-fought mentally draining 3-2 victory as DiFrancesco’s tactical decisions seem to pay off as DeFrancesco his job is safe for now.

Eusebio di Francesco made a formation change ahead of this much important fixture. Having a mainly operated out of the 4-2-3-1 formation Roma come out in this game with these 3-4-3 formation as the Patrik Schick experiment has failed. In goal for Roma returning after being dropped for the match in the Champions League this the week would be the Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen In a Roma’s 3 man defense at left-back would be Juan Jesus. Beside him would be Center back Kostas Manolas followed by Federico Fazio at right-back. Roma would have a packed four man midfield. In Roma Central Midfield it would be the duo of Bryan Cristante and Steven Nzonzi as they push higher up after being in the defensive Midfield position on a regular basis. To the left as he went back pushing up from his typical left back position would be Alex Kolarov. On the opposite side at the right wing-back position would be Roma vice Captain Alexandro Florenzi. Upfront in the Roma attack would be the three-headed monster of Cengiz Under being joined by Justin Kluivert and Nicolo Zaniolo in Roma’s attack. A fairly strong Roma bench with Roma Captain Daniele De Rossi available having just recovered from injury but Lorenzo Pellegrini Edin Dzeko and Stephan El Shaarawy all remained out.

After preparations and predictions we were just about to kick-off in an addition of Saturday Night Football in cold and rainy Roma. A game that had the greatest of implications that could have been the downfall of DiFrancesco’s time in charge or the resurrection of this inconsistent Roma. Roma controlled the possession battle as they but  momentum seemed to be in Genoa favor at least at the start of the match. The teams were starting to feel each other out in the opening minutes as we didn’t have a scoring chance until after the 10-minute mark. Christian Kouamé  opening chance of the game as he saw his strike some distance miss. A few minutes later Piatek tried to strike from the side of the box but was denied by Robin Olsen as he made the save. Roma would get their first chance a few minutes later as set a Fazio got his head through Under’s cross on a corner ultimately missing. Despite that there just Genoa seemed to have momentum as they played with great confidence they ultimately made a Roma pay in the 18th minutes we had a breakthrough. Piatek got past Robin Olson to give Genoa a 1-0 lead. Piatek has struggled since his hot start to the season mainly scoring penalties. A devastating moment for Robin Olson who stumbled the ball between his legs before the striker put on the finishing touch a disasters error for the Swedish keeper. Another display of a mental breakdown from Roma However Roma it didn’t break down they continued to try to play to their best ability. It was very early in the game and they believed they had an opportunity to get themselves back into it. Minutes later Federico Fazio can close. The imposing six-foot-five Federico Fazio put his head through a cross from Florenzi a nice idea but his header was saved. Federico Fazio later saw his shot on goal misfire. Despite the situation Federico Fazio was proving himself to be very valuable in the first half Roma. Making a really big impact early. Eventually the moment would come from in the 31st minute Federico Fazio gave Roma the breakthrough. Coming off a set-piece from Florenzi Fazio got himself in position being in the right place at the right time put the ball in the bottom corner to draw Roma level. Roma displayed some of the character and spirit as Roma get right back into the match.

Fazio equalizes for Roma as buries his shot

However just two minutes later Roma found themselves down again in the 33rd minute Oscar hit a standard shot off a corner to give a Genoa a 2-1 lead just minutes after conceding beating Robin Olsen to the near post. Genoa did seem like the better team but Roma never looked like they were truly out of it. under had a pair of chances following the goal. After a  miss by Under the Turkish star came close after a chance orchestrated by Bryan Cristante who was proving to be such an important piece of the Midfield rstruck the ball from inside the Box but the goalkeeper was able to manage. Roma desperately wanted to draw even before the break and that’s exactly what they did. In the 45th minutes Roma got on the counter attack and punish them for it. Alex Kolarov ignited the counter-attack with a superb through-ball. With under and Kluivert forward Under orchestrates a back heel pass to Justin Kluivert. The Dutch teenager runs forward using his speed and athleticism showing how dangerous he can be coming forward. Kluivert takes the ball from Midfield runs with the ball driving the ball inside the Box before beating the keeper drilling the ball into the bottom corner to equalize making it 2-2. Incredible run a play from Roma an excellent through-ball an excellent layoff pass by Under. That ended with an unbelievable run and Strike by Justin Kluivert as a 19 year old scores his first Serie A goal for Roma to level the scores. After the 45 minutes we would have a thriller on our hands with a 2-2 score line thanks to goals from Federico Fazio and Justin Kluivert.

Justin Kluivert scores his first goal in Italian football as Roma draw even

Roma showed resilience and spirit to end the first half coming back twice to draw even. A strong first-half for Roma but not without issues but none the less you must admire their spirit. In the opening minute of the second half Cengiz Under missed a enormous opportunity. As he struck a ball from Deep after seeing while Genoa keeper was on the ground but failed to hit the target. He wasn’t having a very good afternoon we know how good he is in the future he will continue to find the back of the net. Controversy hit shortly after as it had appeared Genoa at taking the lead. However after Consulting the VAR the goal was eventually wiped off as Roma got a break. The momentum had shifted in Roma’s favor and they took full advantage of it when they had their chance. In the 59th minute Roma would take their first lead of the evening. Bryan Cristante with the game level displayed his Superstar moment showing his intelligence and ability. After collecting a deep pass from Steven Nzonzi the midfielder took a one touch before popping it up to Justin Kluivert. Kluivert hit it back to Cristante with a headed pass. The ball bounced off the ground slightly and Bryan Cristante came through in a vital moments as he smashed the ball off the bounce into the bottom corner to give Roma the 3-2 lead.

Bryan Cristante sinks Genoa with another superb strike

A true Superstar moment a world-class goal from the creation to the finish Bryan Cristante shows he is the real deal. Roma’s spirits and determination getting put on full display as they fight back and finally sign themselves in front. It would be the second consecutive match in which he has scored as he scored his third goal of the season. The momentum was in Roma’s favor as Roma started to feel some confidence but as we learned last week Roma need to finish the job it certainly looks like they had learned from that experience. Roma remained in more control as the match got closer and closer to their first win in several weeks. Bryan Cristante set up Kolarov off on a cross but he misfired despite that he was playing out of his mind had complete control of the Midfield Bryan Cristante certainly was the man of the moment. 10 minutes later Cristante put his head through a cross missing as it remained even. With about 15 minutes to go Roma made their first change as Davie Santon came in for Cengiz Under who had a less-than-impressive day. Piatek came close to an equalizer but he was denied. Roma would make their second change of the evening as Justin Kluivert came out for Patrik Schick. Kluivert got a standing ovation from the supporters after a superb performance. A few minutes after the substitution Bryan Cristante yet again orchestrated a tremendous chance as he came within inches of putting away the game for good. Cristante dribbled through a pair of Defenders before sending a cross on the left wing to Kolarov who shot on goal. after making the run from outside the box he attempted to put it in the back of the net but was denied by the post. In the very death of the match a penalty call was missed that could have given Genoa a late penalty. It ultimately wasn’t given as Roma held on for an inspiring 3-2 Victory. It is a result that Roma truly deserves behind the absolute Brilliance a Bryan Cristante who quite clearly has arrived.

After what had seemed to like a inconsistent windlass stretch of football Roma finally show that spirits and the determination to pick up a massive three points. Make no mistake about it and Roma not won this game DiFrancesco in all likelihood would have lost his job.  It was their first win in the league since November 11th against Sampdoria. Since that Victory there’s been a whole lot of chaos with Roma. Being without Stephan El Shaarawy Edin Dzeko and Lorenzo Pellegrini who have been out for a little while now it is crucially important because those are Roma’s three best players this season. During that stretch we have seen that some Stars evolved in this Roma team but the results have not followed. Roma has continuously dropped points against inferior opponents. Roma has been criticized for inconsistent play and a lack of spirits over the past week. Di franesco finally he gets the response from his team as Roma showed unbelievable resilience character and spirit. Roma have responded in the best way Roma did not take the lead until the 59th minute of the five-goal Thriller that we saw at the Stadio Olimpico this evening. This is a team the at times it has appeared they had given up on the game in tonight’s match they never lost faith that they could turn the game around showing unbelievable character watching Genoa Take the lead twice in the first half. Roma did get a bit of luck as a clear penalty in the closing moments was not given to Genoa but during this horrible stretch  is something that Roma needed. There were some underlining issues from a tactical perspective and what we saw on the pitch at times still is very concerning. DiFrancesco made a formation change. In the 3-4-3 formation Roma showed some promise but also showed defensively there’s a lot of work to do. This was an extremely tough match and Genoa is a very strong side that is a lot better than the record and their form suggests. Roma had to battle back they showed some real quality and made Roma work for everything. The change of formation was a very bold move but I think in the long run it turned out to be the right decision. We saw a display of great Brilliance from Bryan Cristante and Justin Kluivert they were the huge difference in this match. the team chemistry we saw between them in Midfield was absolutely Sensational. Justin Kluivert scored his first goal in Italian football and what a goal it was showing his true on catered quality and skill. Not to mention his extreme athleticism and speed as he scored a wonderful goal. He also did a tremendous job facilitating a goal as well a nearly complete performance from the nineteen-year-old. meanwhile Bryan Cristante proved to be the real deal in Roma’s Midfield he has just been a next level this month and you continue to see his progression. He was such a dominating force scoring the game-winning goal in crucial moment scoring in his second consecutive game proving his importance to this Roma team that is without three major Stars. Justin Kluivert was spectacular but for me the man of the match goes to Bryan Cristante who just played such a role in Romans Midfield making them explosive in their ball movement. Fazio also deserve some recognition he has struggled at times but offensively today he was extremely strong playing a little bit out of position at right-back even scoring a goal we just want to see more performances like that from him. a huge match next week as Roma travel to Turin to take on Juventus Roma do have a few things to clean up but the spirit I love this team not only saved DiFrancesco his job also we got to see what this Roma team can be when they’re playing like this now the task is trying to maintain it a great response from Roma as they take on the Great White Sharks.
