Roma vs Juventus Match Day 19 Preview #736

Roma are coming off a very controversial and disappointing loss to Torino last weekend at the Stadio Olimpico to start the new year. Roma are looking to try to get back on track as Roma continue to try to maintain their spot in the top four in hopes of Champions League football next season. There will be a challenge that will await them on Sunday night. Maybe not necessarily a must-win game but for the confidence aspect Roma would like to get back into winning ways this Sunday. On Sunday night in primetime Roma will host the Juggernaut that is Juventus. A club that has dominated Italian football for the last decade. After a disappointing loss last week this is exactly not what they needed. Last season despite how bad Roma were they split the season series with Juventus with a victory against Cristiano Ronaldo and Company at the Stadio Olimpico. That match was fondly remembered as the battle between Cristiano Ronaldo and Alessandro Florenzi. During this match during a scuffle between Ronaldo and Florenzi. Cristiano Ronaldo was mocking Roma’s right back for being short. Alessandro Florenzi did get the last laugh as Roma went on to win that game as he would score the go-ahead goal. However neither team has forgotten about this. Juventus will be looking for Revenge as they continue to try to battle with Inter Milan for the title and equally Florenzi will remember how Cristiano Ronaldo treated him in the match last season as Roma try to strengthen their case for Champions League football next season. The match of the weekend without any question to heavyweights going head-to-head in the Eternal City. This fixture has always been a dramatic exciting and exhilarating. Will we see Roma pull off another upset against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico or will Juventus come to Rome and get their first win in 4 years.

A.S Roma

We can expect Paulo Fonseca and Roma to come out of their usual 4-2-3-1 formation. In goal as always will be Pau Lopez as the Spaniard continues to show to be a big improvement from Robin Olsen last season. Roma’s backline should stay more or less the same than what we saw last weekend. At left-back will be Alex Kolarov who just signed a new contract with Roma. Besides him should be the usual centre-back Partnership of Gianluca Mancini and Chris Smalling. Then at right back should be the hero from the last time these two teams played Alessandro Florenzi the Roma captain. Leonardo Spinazzola former Juventus player will be available for the match so there’s a chance he could get the start but I think it’s more likely that the back line stays the same. The defensive Midfield Duo of Jordan Veretout and Diawara should stay as-is as it’s unlikely to be any change there. In the attacking Midfield patrolling the central Position will be Lorenzo Pellegrini who has been one of the best midfielders in all of Europe this season. Besides him on the right wing should be Nicolo Zaniolo. Then on the left-wing returning from injury who was rested ahead of this game we see The Return of Justin kluivert who is Roma’s most explosive player. Then up front the Bosnian Edin Dzeko. This team will also have a strong bench with the likes of Leonardo Spinazzola, and Diego Perotti

Juventus came out with a 4-3-1-2 formation during their last game. However they might want to adjust that strategic approach against Roma. Juventus need to be as attacking minded as possible the 4-3-3 formation could be the way to go. There should be no changes in goal with Szczesny. He is a former Roma keeper and significantly better goalkeeper then Buffon who has been getting more game time then he probably has deserved the backline should be very similar to what we saw last weekend. At left-back we should see Alex Sandro. Beside him the centre-back partnership Leonardo bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt even though he has struggled I think he should be given a chance in this game. Then at right-back Juan cuadrado seems like the best option. In the central part of the Midfield we should see Pjanic another former Roma player who will be very important for Juventus in this match. Beside him should be Blaise Matuidi and Rabiot. Then up front the dangerous front 3 of Cristiano Ronaldo Paulo dybala and Douglas Costa. The  one to worry about for  Juventus despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s form he has been the best player for the old lady this season and will be looking for a chance to get the better of Roma in this matchup.

Bottom Line

This is a really important high-stakes match for both teams. Quite honestly will be one of the best matches of the week. From the storylines to the competitive nature of two teams that are capable of showing a genius when they’re at their best. This match has become really important for Roma and because they are at home at the Stadio Olimpico and give themselves a chance. Roma really need to find a way to at least obtain a point in this matchup. Coming off a really disappointing lost to Torino Roma need that confidence and momentum back they had prior to that game. They have the opportunity to do that if they’re able to get at least a point here at the Stadio Olimpico. Paulo Fonseca plays a very attacking minded set up that could wound a defensive back line from Juventus that isn’t really scaring anyone. Equally Roma had defensive issues in the last game Smalling and Gianluca Mancini need to be at their best to try to handle the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala. The most important aspect of this game for Roma is Justin kluivert returns. Why is that important? Justin kluivert is going to be fresh which could turn into a huge problem. Justin kluivert is the most explosive player from the wing on Roma as well as one of the most explosive players in the league. With the ball he has Wicked pace quite honestly one of the fastest players with the ball in all of Italian football. Adding to the fact that Lorenzo Pellegrini has incredible vision and passing ability. If he can ping balls to Justin kluivert and dangerous areas Juventus will have a really difficult time dealing with that. He is the most important part of Roma if he is at his best and he gets good opportunities and service there is a possibility of an upset on our hands. Paulo Fonseca plays a really fantastic attacking football and if Roma have momentum early they might even be able to win this game. however Juventus have to feel confident about this game even if it is away from home. During the first half of the Season Cristiano Ronaldo really struggled. This is not the case anymore as he is caught fire at the right time. we all remember what happened last year between Florenzi and Ronaldo both players will be looking for Revenge that is going to be one of the most important matchups the match on Sunday. While Cristiano Ronaldo at his best is truly Unstoppable. The player that everyone needs to worry about is Paulo Dybala. He has been the best player for Juventus this season and Roma cannot allow him to get into space if he gets into space it will open up opportunities for Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s hard to predict what will happen on Sunday night Roma will not go into this game as favorites but still have a decent chance to get a point. I don’t see Roma winning this game But I do think they get something from it.
