Following three consecutive losses, Roma finds themselves on the verge of being passed up by AC Milan and Napoli, who are playing terrific football. Roma needed to find a way to pick up all three points in a match that felt like a must-win game. Roma hosted Parma at the Stadio Olimpico in what was going to be their third meeting of the season. Roma beat Parma in the Copa Italia and Parma beat Roma in the league at the Stadio tardini in the first meeting. This was an opportunity for Roma to win the season series against Parma. Roma has not played well over the last couple of games, and this was the best chance to turn around. Parma did not provide much in this game however, despite the circumstances, Roma ended up conceding in the opening 10 minutes. Bryan cristante conceded a penalty for Roma as a Kucka beat Pau Lopez from 12 yards out. However, outside of that, they created next to nothing; for the first time in a while, Roma completely controlled and even dominated the game. In the first half, Parma only had two shots while Roma was assaulting Parma’s goal with their dangerous attack. Parma tries to hold off Roma as much as they could, but Roma wasn’t going to be denied late in the first half henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the leveler as the Armenian continues to have a sensational season in the Italian capital. In the second half, it was more of the same as Roma were the far superior side and continue to display precisely why. For the most part, they kept Parma’s stars at Bay while Roma continues to push forward and threaten Parma consistently. Early in the second half. On a counter-attack, Jordan veretout scored a screamer from outside the Box beating Luigi sepe give Roma a 2-1 lead. Parma never really were in the game they pushed at the very end, but for the most part, Roma neutralized the attack. Roma could have scored several more goals given the number of chances they created, but nonetheless, it was a complete performance from the Romans who were searching for form. Against Parma, they founded winning the season series and picking up a massive three points as Paulo Fonseca and reclaim their position in the top five as things just continue to heat up.
Paulo Fonseca would come out with a very strange lineup ahead of this match. Roma set up out of the 3-4-2-1 formation. In goal as always would be the Spaniard Pau Lopez, who had a sensational display in Roma’s loss to Napoli. Roma will come out with a back three at left-back would be Ibanez besides him in Center back would be by surprise Bryan cristante who is not a center back. Then right back would be Gianluca Mancini. Roma would line up with two defensive midfielders with the two wing-backs on the outside. Jordan veretout and Diawara would be alongside one another in the central part of the defensive Midfield. As the left wing-back would be a Leo spinazzola, then on the opposite side as the right wing-back would be Bruno Peres. Underneath the striker would be the duo of Lorenzo Pellegrini and henrikh Mkhitaryan operating in something that looks like a false nine role. Then upfront as Roma’s Central Striker would be edin Dzeko. Roma will also have Nicolo zaniolo Justin kluivert and others off the Bench if needed.

After preparations and predictions, the match was just about to get underway in the Eternal City as Roma looked to snap their three-game losing streak. Roma really struggled over the last couple of games with going forward and controlling the midfield. However, from the very early part of the game. It was Roma, who had complete control both in the possession battle and going forward the much more dangerous side in the opening 45 minutes. Lorenzo Pellegrini had an early shot blocked at the very beginning of the first half. Despite Roma’s domination and control, Parma ended up pushing themselves in front. Bryan cristante considered a penalty in the ninth minute Kuka converted from the spot to give Parma a 1-0 lead. A frustrating situation, especially for momentum. Despite going down, Roma continues to dominate the game and really looked dangerous, especially going forward. Luigi Sepe denied Bruno Peres from striking from inside the Box shortly after the Parma penalty. Roma continued to play with an absolute confidence about them despite being behind; there was just a growing belief within the team that they were going to get back into the game. A minute later, Bryan cristante’s headered saved as well. This was followed by the best chance at that point of the match as Lorenzo Pellegrini hit the post after connecting on a hellacious strike from outside the box. Roma continued to look sharp and chipped away at the lead. Roma created several more opportunities but didn’t have the Finishing Touch necessary. Then late in the first half in the 43rd minute, Bruno Peres found henrikh Mkhitaryan inside the Box as the Armenian buried the ball in the back of the net beating Luigi sepe leveling the match. It would be henrikh Mkhitaryan eighth goal of the season as he has scored his second game in a row. After the first half, it was all level at the Stadio Olimpico.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan find the leveler right before the break

Outside of the early penalty, it was a very productive first-half from Roma. Parma only had one other shot on goal the entire opening 45 minutes. Roma was the better team, and they proved it every time they touched the ball. Early in the second-half, henrikh Mkhitaryan tested the keeper once again striking from outside the Box, but Luigi sepe once again came to Parma rescue. Roma was coming, and there was nothing Parma could do about it. Less than 10 minutes later, in the 57th minute, their moment arrived on a Counterattack Jordan veretout hit an outrageous strike from well outside the box into the bottom corner to give Roma 2-1 lead. It would be the third goal of the season for The Versatile Frenchman. After seeing his incredible strike taken away in the match against Sampdoria, Jordan veretout finally gets his goal. As Roma take a 2-1 lead. Roma was complete and just continue to force the issue. Parma was trying to find their way back into the game, but it was increasingly difficult as Roma had the ball in the attacking half the majority of the game. Karmoh came through coming off the bench for Parma, nearly getting Parma back into the game, but he over thought it as his shot was blocked. Outside of that chance, they were not creating much of anything whatsoever. Roma would finally go to the bench as Kolarov came in for Bruno Peres. Roma was still in control, but Parma Had the ball in the Romans area quite a bit trying to find a way back into the game. However, Roma was playing brilliantly outplaying Parma, Roma had very minimal mistakes in the backline which made it difficult for Parma. Parma nearly won another penalty with less than 15 minutes to go. Gianluca Mancini had looked like it was a handball, but after the referee review the play using VAR he decided that Parma player had made contact with the ball before it touched Mancini. Roma truly dodged a bullet as that was without question a fifty-fifty call. It became a possession battle throughout the next 10 minutes, not many chances were coming from them, but it was important for Roma to keep themselves in front. Late on, Gonzalo Villar and Carlos Perez went into the game for Lorenzo Pellegrini and Diawara. Edin Dzeko can close on the header in what was one of the only chances that the Bosnian had all night. With just stoppage time to go, Nicolo zaniolo came on for the last couple of minutes. It looked like there was going to be another goal late. Gonzalo Villar had two golden opportunities to extend Roma’s lead even though he failed to score I don’t think it’s fair to judge him as he is a young player who is only played minimal matches this season. In the closing moments of the game, Gianluca Mancini was inches away from Roma, but it turned out not to matter as the final whistle blew as Roma collect all three points. Roma retains their fifth position in the league table. It is Roma’s first win in their last three matches; not only that, it was an excellent performance. Roma should feel a sense of confidence going forward after a terrific display.

Jordan Veretout scores the winner in the second half as Roma collect all three points

Roma has really struggled lately over the last couple of games, especially since the restart of Italian football. They have had issues in multiple areas defensively lack of creativity in Midfield and not enough conviction going forward. Tonight not only did Roma pick up all three points but a wholly fixed all the issues. They looked like a completely different team than the one we have seen this season. Paulo Fonseca went with the back 3 once again, and even without Chris Smalling they had very minimal issues in that area. On top of that, they went forward with great success and confidence, something that could drag momentum through the next couple of their games. Roma absolutely needed to win this game AC Milan, and Napoli are both within a distance of one another trying to take Roma’s fifth position. Roma wants to do everything they can to hold on to that. Roma dominated the game from start to finish creating so many chances quite easily could have put the game away much earlier. However, things did not start though the way they would have liked Parma won a penalty in the opening 6 minutes and had to battle back from a goal down Roma equalized at the end of the half and ultimately kept driving their momentum throughout the game. Roma had dropped the last three games; this was a much better performance. Their performance against Napoli wasn’t bad, but this is the first time since the restart Rome was able to put everything together. Although edin Dzeko had an inferior game, the rest of the team contributing part of the Roman attack looked dangerous. If it weren’t for some great saves by Luigi Sepe Roma would have scored many more goals. Parma provided almost nothing, Roma, defensively in the midfield, and the backline did an excellent job of dealing with Parma Superstars. Paulo Fonseca may be on the hot seat, but it’s cooling off after a nearly Flawless performance by Roma. Henrikh Mkhitaryan was Sensational once again as he seems to be Roma’s most inform player over the last couple of games. We saw high production from the wing-backs spinazzola may still look to be useful for Roma after all. On top of everything else, Diawara did a great job in defense Midfield, and surprisingly despite conceding the penalty Bryan cristante didn’t make all that many mistakes in the backline despite being played out of position. However, the man that match tonight goes to Jordan veretout; not only did he hit an absolutely Sensational strike from outside of the Box to win Roma the game, but his energy in the Midfield and playmaking ability really inspired this team to all three points. He has provided going forward and has upheld his defensive responsibilities as well. He has been one of them is the most consistent player this season and has proven his worth. Tonight was just another example of that. Roma wins at last. in just three days’ time, Rome will be back at it yet again as they go on the road to face 19th Place Brescia Roma take the momentum and will try to take all three points once again. Roma schedule set up nicely if Roma can play like they did tonight the rest of the season; they certainly won’t surrender their position. Roma may have misfired on a lot of chances, but as long as they create as much as they did tonight, they will find a way to win games.
