After preparations and predictions, the match got underway at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Dortmund needed to find a way to close the gap between themselves and Bayern Munich the problem was Hertha Berlin was up for the challenge in front of them. They had a very aggressive early approach just minutes into the game; they extinguished the first blow as Jurgen Ekkelenkamp tires were shot from inside the box before being dealt with by the goalkeeper. Hertha Berlin came through again a minute later; this time, Vladimir Darida tried testing from a distance, but his initial strike from a corner misfired. Even though Dortmund had the possession advantage, it seemed like Hertha Berlin was pushing the tempo and looked far more dangerous. Dortmund tried to get things going as Thomas Meunier follow-through from a complicated angle unable to reach the target. 2 minutes later, Marco Reus came very close after Thomas Meunier set up his captain with a brilliant through-ball that was on the verge of a breakthrough the goalkeeper did manage to deviate the situation. Slowly, it looks like Dortmund started opening up their creativity and looked much more dangerous after a prolonged start. Thomas Meunier connected with Marco Reus again with a cross into the box. Marco Reus came close but hooked his strike to the left. Hertha Berlin attempts to grab some momentum after a couple of chances from Dortmund. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp nearly got a breakthrough as his attempt on goal came very close coming from a set-piece, but his strike hooked to the right. It started to become a low end to end and back and forth; even though Dortmund had more of the ball when Hertha found their moments, they were very dangerous. Mohamed Dahoud went for the spectacular with a deep strike coming from outside the box, not testing anyone, though, as it just coasts over without too much trouble from anybody. Hertha Berlin, we tried to hit back with Isaac Belfodil striking from the side of the box, coming off a set piece of the situation as Vladimir Darida put the ball in a dangerous area before misfiring on goal. It felt a little back and forth; the Breakthrough could have occurred from either side. In the 31st minute, Julian Brandt found a way through on a counter-attack as he scooped up the ball before sliding it into the back of the net to give Dortmund a 1–0 lead. Hertha Berlin instigated a late chance as Jordan Torunarigha stuck a ball looking for the top corner as time expired after 45 minutes. Julian Brandt goal is enough to see Dortmund hold a 1–0 lead, but Hertha Remain very much in this. It is Dangerous Waters to be swimming in if you are Dortmund, but that’s why it was going to be potentially very defying in the second half.

The second half kicked off and what we expected became a reality in the 51st minute on mutually the first chance of the second half Hertha Berlin found their way into it beautiful ball movement from Berlin ultimately led to Isaac Belfodil scoring from a difficult angle after being put through by Vladimir Darida has he talks the ball into a very tight window to get the much-deserved equalizer from Hertha Berlin. There certainly was a game on our hands now. Dortmund tried to grab the momentum back, but they were in an even bigger hole in a blink of an eye. In the 57th minute, Marco Richter stepped up and followed through from just inside the box into the bottom corner, and all of a sudden, Hertha Berlin opened up a 2–1 lead.

Dortmund needs to win to keep their ambitions for a league title alive you cannot let it be in Bayern’s hands. All the momentum was with Hertha Berlin; they were pushing the tempo and came out very aggressively, really looking for that third goal to kill the game. Mohamed Dawoud and Donyell Malen connected on a chance, but it wasn’t enough as their second-half struggles only continued. Then, suddenly, Hertha Berlin put a bullet in the title race. In the 68th minute Marco Richter follows through on an initial shot that was saved, but it wasn’t enough as he was aware and in the right place as he follows through on the follow up into the back of the net as Hertha Berlin ran out to a 3–1 lead at home against Dortmund.

It would now take a miracle for Dortmund erling haaland to find a way back into the game. Dortmund is in an almost inescapable situation. Even if they perhaps came back from a two-goal deficit, a draw against Berlin isn’t good enough and doesn’t do them any good they needed a miracle, and it was unlikely this would happen away from home with the fans behind Hertha Berlin. Dortmund made many changes hoping to provide something to get themselves back into the game. Dortmund grabbed the momentum back and was pushing it; it was too little too late, but they were getting after it, at least hoping to get a goal back. In the 83rd minute, substitute Stefan Tigges put his head through a Raphaël Guerreiro cross into the top corner to get a goal back. Had Dortmund scored that goal, maybe they could have come back and gotten themselves a point. The final scoring opportunity for Dortmund Hertha Berlin controlled the remaining time left as Hertha Berlin held on to secure a 3–2 victory putting a dent in Dortmund title chances as they are stunned at the Olympic stadium in Berlin.

Dortmund has left it up to chance for the title this season. They were going blow-for-blow with Bayern Munich until their controversial defeat at Allianz Arena. They had a very valid reason to be upset about that situation, and it was a game in which they probably should at least have gotten the point. Bayern Munich was the better team in that game, but Dortmund had enough chances, and some controversial decisions go against them that could have at least gotten them something. However, they did not react well enough; they dropped points against a red-hot Bochem, and they could not recover from it. This was a hugely important game; they picked up three points in midweek with erling haaland scoring twice, but they needed to continue to ride the moment considering how well Bayern Munich has been playing. They start to open up a gap at the top of the table they need to be at their best firing at all cylinders because one thing anybody knows about the Bundesliga is anybody can beat anyone; this is an absolute fact you have seen so many different teams come into these situations and beat the Giants. I don’t need to run it down, but this is actually the misconception about the Bundesliga; a lot of people believe it’s just cut and dry, but it’s not; we have seen Titans go down by teams that near the got relegated. However, the problem is you cannot leave it up to chance against Bayern Munich. Dortmund needed to continue to apply pressure instead of collapsing. Widens the gap becomes, the more difficult it will be. Bayern Munich, at the moment, is eight points clear at the top. This means if Dortmund beat them in the reverse fixture and don’t drop any more points, it will still be six points. Hertha Berlin, where they were struggling this season and needed something to propel them for the rest of the campaign. They did that perfectly; they had an outstanding second-half, they were competitive they took advantage of the chances even though they didn’t have that much of a ball. It was a masterful performance from Hertha Berlin, and they deserved and earned their points on Sunday. Dortmund had the much stronger team and had the lead Julian Brandt got things going; they should have continued to build on that, but instead, everything collapsed in the second half conceding three times, and by the time they got their second goal, it was far too late. Dortmund understood the importance of this game, and they just weren’t up for it may not be something they specifically did, but I could not handle the pressure. This has been and continues to be classic Dortmund; when the pressure rises, instead of embracing it, they crumble and evaporate. This has been the case for Dortmund for the last decade; they can change the players and the coaches all they want, but they don’t have enough in this where they’re used to winning to handle these situations better. Marco Rose has done a phenomenal job in The Dugout for Dortmund this season; they have a very high-quality Squad capable of handling themselves on the big stages, but for whatever reason, Dortmund always seems to Fall Apart when things begin to become serious. They hope they can make some ground up during the second half of the season, but they might just have lost the title. Meanwhile, on the other side, Hertha Berlin starts to climb the table away from the Drop Zone as now will take this momentum and confidence flowing through them into 2022. The world will have the spirit and the composer who survived the season. Hertha Berlin gave some hope on Saturday night, while Dortmund’s hope may have been slashed. The Intrigue will only build because you just never know what can happen in the Bundesliga, but Dortmund have put themselves in a very vulnerable situation that was avoidable; now they have to hope Bayern Munich will drop points, and that is a dangerous game to play as they are stoned in Berlin on Saturday evening.
