It is one of the most anticipated matches in Serie A this week, with a lot on the line for both sides. Atalanta with a chance to solidify their champions league position, while Roma needed statement victory to get their Champions League Ambitions back on track. Roma has not fared well against them, especially away from home, so this would be a tremendous challenge considering it didn’t appear that Roma had the attacking materials to handle the attacking brilliance of Atalanta. However, the game we saw could not have gone any differently than I had speculated or predicted. Roma went into this game as significant underdogs in the opening minute. Tammy Abraham kicked Atalanta in the mouth scoring just 53 seconds into the match. Roma opened up a 1-0 lead in the opening minute, showing their deadly nature in front of goal. In what was a rapid start, Atalanta regained control of the game, and they controlled possession and dictated the way the game was going to play the danger was out of Roma’s formation; there was always an opportunity to get on the break, then it happened again. Nicolo zaniolo and Jordan veretout connect on a beautiful counterattack as Nicolo zaniolo scores his first League goal since 2019, has Roma open up a 2-0 lead. At the very end of the first, Luis Muriel struck Bryan cristante taking a big deflection, getting a goal back as Roma held a 2-1 lead after the first half in the second-half Atalanta pressured them constantly. They’re really looked like they were going to break through; even though Roma had moments, it was going to be a tough second half, at least it seemed that way. Duvan Zapata and Palomino look like they had connected on an equalizer; however, an offside was shown on the video review as the goal was taken away. It was the correct decision, but also it was a defining moment of the match. Roma then unloaded on them in front of their fans a deep free-kick finding Chris Smalling giving Roma a third, and then very late on another counter-attack, Tammy Abraham got himself another. In what were truly shocking results as Roma put in a very inspiring display as they pulled off a colossal upset going to the Bergamo against one of the hottest sides in Italy in what was a 4-1 victory for the visiting Roman’s as they have found life back in the Champions League Chase following a tremendous display as Tammy Abraham leads the charge as a Roma run riot at the Bergamo.

Atalanta has been absolutely flying recently, solidifying themselves once again as one of the best teams in the country. While Roma have been stumbling lately and really required a performance, Mourinho was attempting to pull off the upset against Atalanta. The visitors did not have to wait very long in fact; they cracked the game open in the opening minute, stunning the home supporters. In the first minute Tammy Abraham got on the counter-attack, he was in his power and strength to push the ball forward. Inside the box, he follows through while being tripped; in the process, the ball props over Juan Musso as Roma run out to a shock 1-0 lead just 53 seconds into the game, the third-fastest goal of the season. His fifth League goal of the season and his 11th goal in all competitions as the Englishman is starting to build on his debut campaign in Italy.
Tammy Abraham gets Roma off a flying start scoring in the opening minute
Atalanta had the possession advantage and dictated the game to a certain extent; however, Roma was operating out the right game plan playing more or less out of the back five with Rick karsdorp and Matias Vina dropping back in joining the defense; however, on the counter-attack they were deadly. Roma had another chance in the opening 10 minutes when the Jordan veretout misfires outside the box following a free-kick in a dangerous position. For different stretches, Atalanta looks like be more dangerous side. Roma found themselves gripping the game with different moments. Berat Djimsit would test rui Patricio with a deep strike, but the Portuguese shot-stopper could extend, making the save in the top corner. Atalanta, a minute later, would look for duvan Zapata as the Columbian followed through from outside the box, but Rui Patricio came to the rescue once again. It seemed like Atalanta grew, growing in confidence and building themselves into the game. However, once again, Roma on a counter attack and would not be denied. In the 27th minute, Nicolo Zaniolo instigated the counter supplying a great back pass to Jordan veretout, who then sent it back over to Nicolo zaniolo on a two-on-one zaniolo takes a beautiful first touch sliding it into the bottom corner as Roma ran out to a 2-0 lead it would be his first goal in the league since 2019 as Roma would have a two-goal lead in hostile territory.

2 minutes later Rafael toloi was put through by Josip ilicic. Still, once again, Rui Patricio was able to make the save. Late on, Duvan Zapata followed through, connecting on a header coming off of the corner, but he missed the mark. Then on the stroke of half-time substitute, Luis Muriel strike from outside the box taking a massive deflection on Bryan cristante as the ball rolls into the back of the net, and Atalanta gets one back before the break. That would signify the end of the first half with Roma holding on to a 2-1 lead. Thanks to Tammy Abraham and Nicolo zaniolo. Roma has been deadly on the counter-attack even though they have not had much of the ball, which largely has contributed to the lead at that they have.
However, Atalanta was still very much in the game, considering they take advantage right before the end of the break to get one back. The back five has been working so far for Roma, but there’s still much work to do with 45 minutes remaining in a complicated place to play against one of the top sides in Italy. Atalanta came out much more aggressively in the second half as it seemed, at times, it was very difficult for Roma to deal with. Just five minutes into the second, Ruslan Malinovskyi tests rui Patricio from a difficult angle but still manages to make the save. Nicolo zaniolo attempts to hit back as Juan Musso denies him from Deep range. Atalanta was putting a significant amount of pressure on the defense as essentially, it had to play from the back and be more or less mistake-free. We know what this Atalanta team can do, especially when rolling it seemed like they would be on the verge of a breakthrough. Ruslan Malinovskyi misfires trying to test the waters from Deep. A few minutes later, Alexi Miranchuk it’s a strike from deep as well, but unable to get the accuracy on it. It looked like Atalanta leveled it 68 minutes as duvan Zapata and Luis Palomino connected on a pair of headers. However, following a video review, it had clearly shown the goal scorer was offsides as the goal was wiped off. With about 20 minutes to go, Roma would go to the bench as Shomurodov replaced Nicolo zaniolo as Jose Mourinho switched it up. Moments later, Alexi miranchuk was denied from a distance before the game was turned on its head 2 minutes later. In the 72nd minute on a deep free-kick, Jordan veretout sent through a perfectly-placed free-kick into the box Chris Smalling gets on the end of it, getting a touch pushing the ball into the back of the net isee scores for the second consecutive game Roma run out to a 3-1 lead.
Smalling scores for second game in a Row as Roma pulls away
Atlanta continues to push and look dangerous; even if the game felt like it was in control with this Atalanta team, you never know what you’re going to get; they have the capabilities to score at any point in time. Alexi miranchuk cut inside, going head-to-head with rui Patricio again coming dangerously close but wasn’t quite there. Only for Roma to put a bullet and a final stamp on the game in the 82nd, we were witnessing something hard to believe Roma got on the counter-attack once again as Tammy Abraham sent through into the box before striking the well-hit ball into the top corner as Roma are running riot in Bergamo silencing the fans as Roma run out to a 4-1 lead. Tammy Abraham completes his brace scoring his 12th goal of the season. The English striker has been in the form of his life as of late. Atalanta tried to respond with Ruslan malinovskyi from Outside the Box, a very close strike but not enough on it. At The Bitter End of the game, Mourinho makes another change bringing on youngster Ricardo calafiori for Hendrik Mkhitaryan. Atalanta came through again as Ruslan malinovskyi sent a through ball inside to duvan Zapata the Columbia used his brute strength to get inside the Box trying to get around the goalkeeper; however, rui Patricio handled it well with duvan Zapata striking from a difficult angle as the Portuguese keeper managed to make the save. As Roma go to the Beremo and stun Atalanta in what could turn out to be a very defining victory for their season.
Roma erupt as they drill Atalanta in the Bergemo following 4–1 victory
Roma pulled off a massive upset against an Atalanta team that they have struggled so much against over the last couple of years. Atalanta is in third place, and deservingly so they are absolutely flying in the League this season; they had not dropped a point since October came into this in incredible form. Roma mainly has not done well in Atalanta at the Bergamo; taking everything into account, the expectation for Roma to get anything from this game wasn’t very high. Especially considering the doubts attached to their attacking materials. I personally didn’t think Roma had a chance to pull this off. Roma went to the Bergamo and shredded Atalanta. It was a classic Jose Mourinho masterclass as the Champions League race may be back on for his men. I still think it’s unlikely that they will achieve Champions League football, but the door was closed before Saturday afternoon’s events. Tammy Abraham stays in terrific form, scoring in the opening 53 seconds. Roma took the early momentum and confidence and just continued to push. Roma did not have much of the ball at all Atalanta played well for much of the game despite what the scoreline suggested, but they were deadly when they pushed forward and got on the counter-attack; they waited for their opportunity to play very defensive with Rick karsdorp and Matias Vina turning into a back five when Atalanta have the ball. Roma chose their moments and took risks in the process. Nicolo zaniolo scores his first goal in the league since 2019 in a superb finish; once again, he showed erratic decision-making at times, but with space behind, she looked outstanding, especially on the goal. The own goal gave Atalanta a lifeline and then Palomino getting his goal taken away was the defining moment at the game. Roma closed down and immediately took advantage of Chris Smalling another goal in back-to-back games and Tammy Abraham with a brace finishing off in the end. It was a very collective performance where we saw the very best of Jose Mourinho getting the best of the Roma team that perhaps put together their greatest performance of the season. Everything clicked well tonight from all three levels defending the Midfield and the attack. The man of the match tonight was Tammy Abraham; although Chris Smalling was a close second, he now has six league goals this season and 12 goals in all competitions; that is one more than the legend that wore the number nine before him. It was a very heartwarming moment that took place throughout the match as well as we saw a similar figure in the crowd in Bergamo the man that once wore number 9 edin Dzeko was in attendance clearly one reason and one reason only is his affection for his former Club it was a beautiful sight to see even if he does not wear the shirt anymore. Still, Roma will never forget what he accomplished and what he did. Atalanta did not play particularly badly, but the Roma defense was able to handle Duvan Zapata, who was a large part of why Roma played so well. I figured out a way to contain him ultimately led to Roma’s points. The scoreline might be a little deflated but it’s the critical performance for their Chase for Champions League football; it’s going to be a dogfight if they’re going to qualify, but this performance and this results give them a bit of hope. Tuesday night, they take on Sampdoria looking to keep things going.
